Christmas at Luther Music Visit Event

High school seniors, currently involved in music, and their parents are invited to our visit event that culminates with the Christmas at Luther concert. Now in its 33rd year, the musical celebration features performances by six choirs, Luther Ringers, and the Symphony Orchestra. The concert takes place in the college's beautiful Center for Faith and Life.

The schedule for the visit event is flexible based on what you would like to do. You can arrive in the morning, for the 1:15 p.m. welcome, for dinner or for the concert.

Check your mailbox for a confirmation postcard that indicates your required arrival time based on your morning selections.

*A note about scholarship auditions: March 7 is the music scholarship deadline. Therefore, you are strongly encouraged to audition for a music scholarship during this event. Auditions are scheduled prior to 1:15 p.m. Please review audition requirements. Accompanists are not required.

Afternoon and Evening Schedule
1:15 p.m.Welcome and concert preview with Dr. Gregory Peterson, Dr. Allen Hightower, Dr. Jennaya Robison and Dr. Andrew Last. Meet Dr. Joan deAlbuquerque and Dr. Daniel Baldwin.
2:30 p.m.Choice of activity:
  • Spend time with Joan deAlbuquerque, director of bands. Bring your instrument and participate in a side-by-side rehearsal with members of the Luther College bands.
  • Bring your instrument and rehearse with Jazz Band and Tony Guzman. 
  • Workshop: "Listen, Sing, Play and Improvise." Work with Luther faculty member Amy Engelsdorfer and current Luther students to enjoy performances by informal student musical groups. 
  • Campus tour. 
  • "Bring your passport." At Luther, we believe the best education connects students with global issues and helps them engage with the larger world. Come to this session to explore the wide range of international and domestic off-campus studies options available at Luther. And if you decide to enroll--bring your passport!

During this time, in addition to most of the activities listed above,  parents will have the opportunity to learn about financial aid or attend a conversation with the Vice President for Student Life, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Director of the Career Center.
