This unique visit event is specifically designed to help high school seniors take one final look at Luther. Activities offered will highlight on- and off-campus opportunities, student life, co-curricular events, and quite simply, life at Luther College.

Monday morning activities will feature class visits and informational sessions, while afternoon events will include hiking, team-building experiences on our new high-ropes course or bus and van trips to favorite local destinations.

Students and parents will be able to share some activities, but a number of separate and unique options have been created for each group.

NOTE: We are no longer able to offer housing on Sunday evening, but invite you to participate in Monday activities.

  • Anthropology/Archaeology Lab Tour with Dr. Colin Betts. We will look at artifacts from Luther's collection ranging from prehistoric items from NE Iowa to more recent finds from all over the world.
  • Backstage pass to the Theatre and Art Departments with Jeff Dintaman, Theatre Department Chairman
  • Conversation with Chemistry Majors and Dr. Carolyn Mottley
  • Conversation with College Ministries: Spirituality, Service, Outreach
  • History majors and Dr. Marv Slind share the research done by students for their senior projects.
  • Seniors majoring in accounting, economics, management or information systems will share their classroom and co-curricular experiences.
  • Simulation in Health Care Education: "Kelly, Kelly, are you okay?" Spend some time with the human patient simulators who live in Valders Hall of Science. Learn how health care education is enhanced by the use of simulation. Listen to heart, lung and bowel sounds and calculate  pulses and blood pressure on a human patient simulator. As part of a health care team, assess, provide intervention, and evaluate the outcomes of a simulated patient! With Nursing Lab and Simulation Director, Jessica Raabe
  • Talk, Treats and Tour with Elizabeth Golovatski of the physics department. Hear about "Opportunities for Physics Majors at Luther College" followed by a tour of the department.

11:45 a.m.       Spotlight on Library and Information Services, Academic Support and the Writing Center. Successful college students make early connections with research and technology support. Visit Preus Library during our Open House from 11:45-1:15 to learn about Luther’s unique, integrated model that supports a wide range of student computing and library research needs. The Open House will feature personal conversations to help you prepare your student for their transition to Luther and build connections to support their academic success during their time at Luther. We will also feature in-house partnerships with the Writing Center and the Student Academic Support Center. Visit the Archives exhibit outside the Rare Book Room to see some treasures from Luther’s past.

  • Ropes Course, Frisbee Golf, Kickball (If bad weather, we will move indoors)
  • Hike the trails and discover Dunning Spring cascading waterfall just one mile from campus. Return via the Whippy Dip.
  • Join members of the Luther Ballroom/Swing Club as they teach you the East Coast Swing and waltz. No experience necessary./CFA Studio II
  • Luther Through a Lens: Learn basic elements that make a photograph and join us for a friendly photographic scavenger hunt. Bring along a digital camera or smart phone.
  • Norsemen or Aurora Rehearsal followed by a Walk to the Whippy Dip

At 1:15, parents can choose from a scenic tour of Decorah, a trip to Seed Savers,  or a walk through downtown Decorah.
