This event provides you with a unique opportunity to explore the visual and performing arts at Luther through workshops, interaction with current students, art portfolio, dance, and theatre critiques. Visiting us for this event is a great chance to learn more about Luther College and specifically about the opportunities in art, dance and theatre. Activities are appropriate for majors and non-majors alike.

Seminar Descriptions

  1. Artists Make Software. This quick class will introduce students to the art of creative computer coding and software development using the Processing language (developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology). This is appropriate for everyone who is interested in Art and Technology!
  1. Portrait Painting. Students can observe or participate in a portrait painting workshop with Luther students and faculty focusing on observation and technique.
  1. Wheel-throwing: Collective Sculpture. Using the potter's wheel, students will collectively make forms that will amass into a larger collective sculpture.
  1. Verse and Voice. In this workshop students bring Shakespeare's words to life through an exploration of the text.
  1. Improv Ground Rules. Students jump into the creative play of unscripted acting armed with only the basic "rules" of improvisation.
  1. Painting Costume Renderings. Students will play with watercolor and other various media to paint a costume rendering.
  1. Introduction to Movement Fundamentals. What is Movement Fundamentals? Experience a radical shift in the way dance artists are trained in technique, choreography, and performance. Whether you are an experienced studio dancer or a first time dancer, this workshop is for you!
