Christmas at Luther Music Visit Event

High school seniors currently involved in music and their parents are invited to our visit event that culminates with the Christmas at Luther concert. Now in its 32nd year, the musical celebration features performances by six choirs, Luther Ringers, and the Symphony Orchestra.The concert takes place in the college’s beautiful Center for Faith and Life. 

The schedule for the visit event is flexible based on what you would like to do. You can arrive:

  • in the morning 
  • for the 1:15 p.m. Welcome
  • for dinner
  • for the concert
Optional Morning Activities -- available upon request
(Check your mailbox for a confirmation postcard that indicates your required arrival-time based on your morning selections.)
  • Music scholarship audition(s)
  • Conversation with an admissions counselor
  • Campus tour
  • Lunch
A note about scholarship auditions: March 7 is the music scholarship deadline. Therefore, you are strongly encouraged to audition for a music scholarship during this event. Auditions are scheduled prior to 1:15 p.m. Please review audition requirements at www.luther.edu/music/auditions. Accompanists are not required.
 
Afternoon and Evening Schedule
 
1:15 p.m. --- Welcome and concert preview with Dr. Gregory Peterson, Dr. Allen Hightower, Dr. Jennaya Robison, and Dr. Andrew Last
2:30 p.m. --- Choice of activity (class visits are for students only)
  • Spend time with Joan deAlbuquerque, director of bands. Bring your instrument and participate in a side-by-side rehearsal with members of the Luther College bands. 
  • Bring your instrument and rehearse with Jazz Band and Tony Guzman. Parents may observe.
  • Workshop: “Listen, Sing, Play, and Improvise.” Work with Luther faculty members Billy Fordice and Amy Engelsdorfer, and current Luther students to enjoy performances by informal student musical groups. Parents may observe.
  • Campus tour. Students and parents.
  • Bring Your Passport. At Luther, we believe the best education connects students with global issues and helps them engage with the larger world. That's why Luther consistently ranks as one of the top 10 baccalaureate colleges in the nation for the number of students studying abroad. Come to this session to explore the wide range of international and domestic off-campus studies options available at Luther. And if you decide to enroll--bring your passport! Parents welcome.

During this time parents will also have the opportunity to learn about financial aid, take a campus tour, or attend a conversation with the Vice President for Student Life and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

4:45 p.m. --- Dinner with comments by President David Tiede
5:45 p.m. --- Christmas at Luther concert
7:15 p.m. --- Departure
 
On-campus housing with current students is not available for this event.
